On this page my favorite writers and some of their best works reside. The best websites I've found devoted to them can be reached by clicking their names. Under each name is a list of recommended reading by that author.
I've read almost everything Mr. Brust has published and these are the best. I'm eagerly awaiting The Viscount of Adrilankha, his next Dragaera book.
The Dragaera Books:
- Taltos
Jhereg
Phoenix
Yendi
Orca
The Phoenix Guards
Five Hundred Years After
Other Good Stuff:
- Agyar
To Reign In Hell
Harlan is an absolute genius along with just being a helluva guy! He's such a capable, talented, versatile writer that he's written everything from short stories to screenplays, acts as a consultant for Babylon 5 and for some reason keeps editing science fiction (Yes, science fiction. Not sci-fi! He despises that word!) books and magazines even though he knows its just going to give him grief! And....well....if you wanna know more about him click his name!
Short Stories:
- A Boy and His Dog
I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream
Jeffty is Five
"Repent Harlequin!" Said the Ticktockman
Glowworm
Lifehutch
The Prowler in the City at the Edge of the World
Screenplays:
- City on the Edge of Forever (Star Trek)
If you haven't fallen in love with Paksenarrion Dorthansdotter, you will when you read about this paladin's deeds!
The Deed of Paksennarrion:
- Sheepfarmer's Daughter
Divided Allegiance
Oath of Gold
This guy has written some of the best Star Wars books to surface recently. Wedge Antilles is a very underused character, often being overshadowed by Luke, Han, Lando, etc., but Mr. Stackpole shows us just how cool Wedge can be! The Fiddleback Trilogy, which is based on the Dark Conspiracy role-playing game, is an absolute joy to read, too. Especially if you like convoluted, twisting plots!
Star Wars - X-Wing:
- Rogue Squadron
Wedge's Gamble
The Krytos Trap
The Bacta War
The Fiddleback Trilogy:
A Gathering Evil
Evil Ascending
Evil Triumphant
You didn't think I'd leave him out did you?! I have a veritable library of the master's books. They are all so great that its hard to choose, but IMHO these are his best.

The Stand
Needful Things
Misery
Carrie
Short Stories:
- Mrs. Todd's Shortcut (Skeleton Crew)
The Ten O'Clock People (Nightmares and Dreamscapes)
Battleground (Night Shift)
The Mist (Skeleton Crew)
The Body (Different Seasons)
The Langoliers (Four Past Midnight)
The Library Policeman (Four Past Midnight)
Gray Matter (Night Shift)Screenplays:
(These are the only ones that seemed like real art and not just pale imitations of the books)
- The Shining
Firestarter
The Shawshank Redemption
Misery
Dolores Claiborne
FINALLY!! We all waited so long! I'm so glad she didn't give up on it and could give us Shelters of Stone!
The Earth's Children Series:
- The Clan of the Cave Bear
The Valley of Horses
The Mammoth Hunters
The Plains of Passage
The Shelters of Stone
Although I've enjoyed many a Xanth book, there are only so many puns I can take! Plus, if you only read his Xanth stuff, I don't think you'll ever fully grasp Mr. Anthony's talent for character creation & exploration. So, a list of his best, sans Xanth:
The Cluster Series:
- Chaining the Lady
Cluster
Kirlian Quest
Viscous Circle
The Mushroom Trilogy:
- Omnivore
Orn
Ox
If there was any character anywhere that I related to more than Taran of Caer Dallben when I was growing up, I don't know who it was. Even though I've outgrown these so-called 'young adult' stories, they remain some of the best Fantasy I've ever read! Disney FINALLY released The Black Cauldron animation that they made and, although they didn't completely destroy it, it was still 'Disneyfied'!
The Prydain Chronicles:
- The Book of Three
The Black Cauldron
The Castle of Llyr
Taran Wanderer
The High King
